Research On The Scriptwriting Art Of Yu Rongjun's Original Drama

Yu Rongjun is a representative of the Shanghai youth scriptwriter and the founder of “white-collar drama”.So far,he has created and adapted more than 50 stage dramas,among which the original dramas occupy the largest number and achieve the most.However,the current researches on Yu Rongjun's drama are not sufficient.In this paper,the author analyzes 20 original dramas of Yu Rongjun and interprets the editing art of them from five aspects,that is,creation course,theme presenting,structure establishment character portrayal and audio-visual design.When he was in university,Yu Rongjun made an acquaintance with drama by chance.Then he worked at the Shanghai Drama Art Center after graduating from the Shanghai Sports Institute.During the period of Shanghai drama depression,he started drama creation.His early works have a distinctive Shanghai-style,showing the urban culture features of fashion lead,ration and moderation.Having went through the bottleneck period of creation,he put his focus on “reflecting on the relationship between man and society” from “caring about the feelings of people” and his dramas also became more serious and heavy.Insisting on the principle of realism,he created his original dramas basing on three main themes: “Emotional Myths in Self-Redemption”,“Nothingness of Existence under the Constrain of Materials” and “The Brilliance of Human Nature Appeared at the moment between living and death”.Corresponding to the theme,the drama tend to adopt the structure of prose,which is helpful for expressing feelings,as well as that of poem,film and epic,and so on,which are thought-provoking.The characters in the drama are of distinctive features,including three main types of “urban men and women trapped in love”,“marginalized people in the materialistic society” and “professional doctors of high moral”.The poetic scene and the exquisite language that is vivid give birth to the distinctive audio-visual style of the drama.Yu Rongjun has made great contributions to the resurgence of the Shanghai drama market since the new century.When creating original dramas,he has been insisted on artistic pursuits while meeting the aesthetic needs of the audience.Therefore,great achievements have been made in both business and art aspects.In this paper,the author aims to provide some lessons for contemporary scriptwriters to learn from by analyzing and summarizing the editing art of Yu Rongjun's original drama.
