The Primitive Tendency And Its Visual Metaphor In Expressionist Painting

The German expressionist painting,as one of the most important schools in the history of western modern art in the 20 th century,reflects the political,economic and cultural life of Germany in specific time and space with subjective aesthetic ideas and individual artistic techniques.It is a spiritual revolution that breaks through the traditional art system.Under the pressure of complex social background such as economic decline,war disaster and spiritual deficiency,expressionist artists mainly composed of “ Die Brucke” ? “Der Blaue Reiter”and “ New Sachlichkeit” use revolutionary gestures to seek the essence of art.They are influenced by the aesthetic value of the original exotic culture.Starting from the subjective concept,they explore the artistic spirit and art form with the cultural tradition of the German national rationality.Through the artistic practice of painting,color,lines and brushstrokes,it reveals the artistic thinking and essential connection between expressionist painting and primitive art,and makes the artistic trend of expressionist painting to form the original tendency become historical necessity.The artist uses exaggerated and abstract expression techniques to convey the pure spiritual world deep inside,and uses the form of visual metaphor to give the true face of things,thus giving the viewer the touch and perception of the true beauty.This provides a framework of thought and theoretical vision for today's artistic creation,which is conducive to our thinking about the current artistic atmosphere.We should follow the spiritual foundation of artistic ego and dare to explore new forms of art that can reflect the spiritual pursuit of contemporary human beings.In this paper,German expressionist painting as the main research object,starting from exploring its original tendency and visual metaphor,using literature research,case analysis,image analysis and other methods to collate,summarize and analyze the relevant data,improve the theoretical system of this paper,and establish a clear research content.This paper is mainly divided into four chapters: Firstly,to clarify the research content,to make a rational interpretation of the related themes of expressionism,primitive tendency,visual metaphor;Secondly,it explores the reasons for the primitive tendency in German expressionist painting,and analyses it from five aspects: social conditions,primitive intervention,national foundation,artistic inheritance and philosophical trend of thought.Thirdly,combining with the artistic works to study the artistic language of primitive tendencies in expressionist paintings,this paper analyses the form commonness between expressionist paintings and primitive art from the aspects of shape,color,lines,strokes and symbols,and analyses the connotation of visual metaphor conveyed by their pictures;Fourthly,through the study of the above content,the essential relationship between expressionist painting and the original art is analyzed.It is concluded that the artistic thinking and spirit of the two are interlinked.It provides an ideological framework and theoretical vision for today's artistic creation,and has enlightening significance for my artistic exploration.
