"The Belt and Road Initiative" is a cooperation initiative put forward by President Xi Jinping in October 2013,which shows great appeal and influence in the political, economic, cultural and other fields and attracts numerous domestic and international scholars to pay attention to the study of "The Belt and Road Initiative".Translation is not only a language problem, but also related to the culture and political ideology of the destination country. Therefore, among those studies,it is of great value for the translation versions of "The Belt and Road Initiative" in the West. The research on translation versions from western major newspapers is conducive to gaining comprehensively information about the main attitude and general reception of western countries toward this initiative, adjusting the relevant principles of translation and dissemination in western countries, and expanding international influence of this initiative in the world.Translation Politics is the theoretical basis of this study. The issue about Translation Politics was discussed as early as 1961 by the American scholar Werner Winter and was developed by French famous philosopher and historian Michel Foucault,American scholar Martin Jay,British scholar in Hermans, and American cultural critic Andre Lefeffer.Based on their theoretical achievements,Gayatri C.Spivak,an Indian-American Post-Colonial critic, set up a specific chapter in Outside Teaching Machine, and discussed Translation Politics from the aspect of Post-Structuralism,Post-Colonialism and Feminism. This theory studies translation in the broad political field based on the Three-tiered Notion:rhetoric, logic and silence and points out the political issues exposed in the process of translation. This thesis collects 481 reports about "The Belt and Road Initiative" of seven major newspapers of America,Britain,Canada and Australia from October 2013 to December 2017.In general,28 categories of translation versions which are adopted by those seven newspaper are analyzed in light of Translation Politics to explore the four countries' attitudes toward this initiative.Through analyzing the relationship among rhetoric, logic and silence of these translation versions and the national political ideology of every country. It can be concluded that Britain pays extremely high attention and holds an open attitude to this initiative,America changes from the initial total resistance to a pro-advocacy attitude,Canada has a less focused attention and keeps a neutral attitude, while Australia has a positive attitude of looking forward to cooperation. On the basis of attitude analyses, the dissemination principles in western countries can be adjusted timely to further expand the influence of the initiative, and this thesis hopes to provide a new perspective of other political terms' translation study.
