Animal Narrative Studies From The Perspective Of Ecology

With the rapid development of modern civilization,people are no longer painstakingly curbing their desires.Hedonism and utilitarianism have become the mainstream values.Modernity alienates human beings in the magic of desire.Human beings take anthropocentrism as their belief and regard all things in nature as their "tools" to exploit and plunder nature crazily and destroy nature wantonly according to their own development needs.Regularity,the elimination of other animals,reduce their living space,make the ecological crisis intensified,ecological imbalance become a reality.The emergence of a global ecological crisis has spawned ecological literature.The rise and prosperity of ecological literature is the inevitable reflection of writers’ deep worries about the destiny of the earth in literary creation.Reality has prompted the writers to rethink the relationship between human beings and nature,and to extend the concern of values and ethics to the animals that are closest to human beings.This paper mainly focuses on Chinese contemporary wolf-themed novels.In these works,wolves become the objects of literary scholars’ observations.The complex relationship and spiritual connection between wolves and human beings have become the center of scrutiny among writers.They show readers the multiple relations of antagonism and interdependence between man and Wolf,writing a series of ecological disasters through the imbalance of the relationship between man and Wolf,so as to warn and urge people to construct ecological consciousness to maintain ecological balance,at the same time,injecting fresh vitality into the prosperity of Chinese contemporary literature.Based on previous studies,this paper adopts the theories of ecological consciousness,ecocriticism and animal narration.And combined with the specific texts of contemporary wolf-themed novels,the core concept is defined first,and then sorting out the evolution of Chinese contemporary wolf-themed novels.The characteristics of Wolf novels in the 1980s,1980s and 1990s and the new century are summarized by means of text analysis.Secondly,this paper interprets the ecological theme from the two aspects of human nature and human and animal survival dilemma,pointing out the position of human beings in the universe and the human crisis under the materialistic desires,rethinking human life forms in nature and people.The exchange of life between animals once again expresses the concern for animal life ontology from the perspective of fear of life,against anthropocentrism.Finally,starting from the narrative mode of contemporary Wolf novels in China,this paper proposes the vision of harmonious coexistence between human and nature from the perspective of ecology by strengthening the reflection on human nature,re-evaluating human culture and calling for ideal ecological personality.The purpose of this paper is to hope that the spread of ecological literary thoughts and the awakening of human ecological consciousness can make us rethink the relationship between man and nature,man and animals,and call for the establishment of an upward ecological ethical relationship.Finally,I hope it will be helpful to the creation and development of ecological literature in the future.
