| Antigone is one of the most famous tragedies in ancient Greece, which has been studied and interpreted repeatedly by many thinkers from various angles. In the past, thinkers mainly focused on interpreting the connotation of tragedy itself, such as the contradictions between natural law and artificial law,city-state and family, women’s rights and men’s rights, democracy and dictatorship. The focus of the tragedy itself is whether Polinex is buried on the basis of divine law or on the basis of the prohibition of human law.Based on this, this paper argues that Antigone is essentially a tragedy of exploring the relationship between God and man, which expresses clearly that "wisdom is the most important part of happiness, and devotion to God must not be violated".Therefore, starting with the development of the relationship between God and man in ancient Greece, this paper explores the inevitability of Antigone’s tragedy.Facing the unknown nature and society, ancient Greek ancestors germinated two kinds of religious gods, namely, the Olympus God who created the world and human beings and the family God who inherited the family blood.Religious beliefs played a decisive role in the spiritual world of ancient Greeks in all aspects in the early period of ancient Greece, when people absolutely believed in God.However, with the development of society, people’s understanding of the world has been rationalized. From the early natural philosophers to the later wise school, people have questioned the "religious gods" in the ancestral period, and "man is the yardstick of all things" has completely replaced God.Sophocles lived in the transitional period from "absolute belief in God" to "man is the yardstick of all things".The belief and doubt of God coexisted. Therefore, the essence of the conflict between Antigone and Creon was the conflict between the two concepts of "whether man should absolutely believe in God".This led to the inevitability of Antigone’s tragedy. |
