Abstract/Summary:
In the long history of China,Chinese Calligraphy not only serves as an art and skill,but also indispensable accumulation and essence of Chinese culture.In the context of advocating Chinese culture to go out,calligraphy is an effective tool for all countries in the world to understand Chinese civilization.Many scholars have already taken the initiative to make strenuous but steady steps on the way of calligraphy translation,which has laid a solid foundation for further research.However,lack of translation standards,mistranslation and short of systematic bring about the good and bad calligraphy translations are intermingled,which led short of preciseness and correctness during the external promotion of Chinese Calligraphy.There is no doubt that the core position of calligraphy terms determines the image of Chinese Calligraphy in the west when it is translated into English.This paper aims to explore existing English versions of Chinese Calligraphy terms and analyze the correctness of different translation texts.Based on cultural connotation,the current situation of how Chinese Calligraphy terms are being translated during its external promotion is analyzed in this paper.The appropriation is the core of translation,besides,whether the spiritual and connotative meaning were conveyed properly in certain translation version makes great sense.And some basic methods are sorted out by extracting typical translation texts from the existing translation works of Chinese Calligraphy terms and the English versions of Chinese Calligraphy studies.The author combines Chinese Calligraphy terms with cross-language translation theories,adopting domestication,foreignization and other translation strategies as well as Chinese English concepts to pave the way of the translation of Chinese Calligraphy terms.This paper is written to lay a good foundation for shaping a complete translation system of calligraphic terms in the future by studying the existing English versions of Chinese Calligraphy terms.The study of the translation of Chinese Calligraphy terms will not only help us to recognize the shining points of our own culture,but also change the one-sided understanding of Chinese calligraphy culture by foreigners,further deepening our cultural self-confidence.
