A Report On The C-E Translation Practice Of UAV Instructions

The function of product instructions is to convey information and knowledge between information promulgator(manufacturer)and its receiver(consumer).The fundamental purpose is to guide consumers to purchase the products and promote the publicity of the enterprises.The product instructions of the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle(hereinafter referred to as UAV)should not only conform to the writing criteria of scientific and technical texts,but also show the attractiveness of the information on the electronic,scientific and technological products.Therefore,the translation of product instructions is the business of text transformation as well as the cross-cultural transformation of product information.Translators need to fully consider the thinking mode and expression habit of the target text recipient,and combine the product characteristics with the translation purposes to achieve the cross-cultural communication effect of the target text.Functional translation theory,whose core is the translation purposes or the function of the target text,allows and encourages translators to select from different strategies in accordance with their translation purposes,so as to fulfill the communicative function of the target text within the context and in the culture of the target language.The Text Type theory and the Skopos Theory are of particular significance for the translation of the scientific texts.They can help to define the general principles for it as well as to select the translation methods.This thesis discusses the significance of functional translation theories in guiding the translation of UAV instructions from the perspective of words,sentences,and passages.Based on this approach,it tries to summarize the adopted translation techniques for Chinese-to-English translation of the scientific texts,which may serve as references for similar translations and help to improve their quality.
