As the outstanding representative of Chinese traditional culture,Peking Opera has been carrying and delivering the rich spiritual civilization of the Chinese nation.Culture belongs not only to the Chinese nation but also the whole world.Within the national context of Chinese culture's “going out strategy”,Peking Opera translation attracts increasing attention of the academic circle.Peking Opera translation has become an important tool to let the world understand China and Chinese culture, and further to strengthen China's cultural soft power. However, there are still many problems in the current overseas publicity of Peking Opera and the domestic studies are depressed on Peking Opera translation. To realize the successful dissemination of Peking Opera overseas,it is not enough to study Peking Opera translation purely from the level of language.According to eco-translatology,the methodology of the three-dimensional transformation enjoys forceful explanatory power and practicality for the translation of literary works including Peking Opera. This thesis takes The Phoenix Returns to Its Nest as the research case and explores the translator's adaptive transformation and selection based on the linguistic dimension, cultural dimension and communicative dimension.Through the case analysis, the study points out that the central role of the translator is mainly reflected in the selection on the basis of the translator's adaptation to the specific text of Peking Opera and the entire translational ecological environment from the three dimensions. As for linguistic dimension, the translator makes the appropriate adaptive selection to the differences between Chinese and English in the syntactic structure, the particularity of poetic language of Peking Opera, and the use of various rhetorical devices in opera works.Regarding cultural dimension, the translator remains the expressions with Chinese culture and Peking Opera culture as much as possible to achieve the purpose of cultural promotion. When it comes to communicative dimension, the translator selectively adopts explanatory translation, liberal translation, substitution and omission methods to the expressions that may hinder the successful communication,so as to facilitate the stage performance of the translation and meet the expectations of foreign audiences.According to the above,it is concluded that the English translation of Peking Opera has its own specific translational eco-environment.Translators should be equipped with the ability to make multi-dimensional adaptive transformation in the process of translation. The study also points out that the aim of Peking Opera translation is to spread Chinese culture to the world, and the stage performance is the most effective way to achieve this aim. Therefore, the translator needs to pay attention to the singability and performability of Peking Opera when translating.Meanwhile, the study also comes up with suggestions for research of Peking Opera translation in the future. For example, researches should focus on establishing standard terms translation of Peking Opera and scholars should also pay more attention to Peking Opera translation study from the readers' feedback mechanism and the interdisciplinary theoretical research of Peking Opera translation, etc. These suggestions will provide new research ideas and greater research possibilities for the future translation of Peking Opera.
