This paper takes the documentary keep the Dream of Life as an example to explore the narrative construction and social value of the story-telling of the documentary.From the deeds of the protagonist song peilun get an understanding,to describe the spirit of the characters and show the social value,so as to achieve the purpose of moving the characters through the portrayal of the inner emotional world.The documentary keep the Dream of Life tells that Mr.Song who is a rural child from a poor family likes painting and finally becomes an international artist though self studying.At the age of56,he gave up the high salary job form abroad and decided to return to his hometown whithout thinking twice to make his childhood dream come ture.He has insisted on building the castle using the stone every day since 1997.For the twenty years,he has offered the natives many employment opportunities.He would rather owe millions of debts than accept the business investment,because he didn't want his castle too commercialized.He hoped to build a dreamy castle that didn't realized when he was young,which can deeply feel the ancient culture of Guizhou.Through this documentary,it reflects that ordinary people in today's society never forget their original intention to pursue their dreams and keep moving on.In the meanwhile,it further appeals to the public to pay attention to the protection of ecology and culture.This paper analyzes and studies the narrative construction of the documentary story and the social value in the documentary based on the creation and the practice of the documentary.The first part is the introduction,which mainly discusses the significance and purpose of the documentary shooting.The second part discusses the value of the topic selection of the documentary narrative construction.The third part focuses on the audio-visual design of the works;The fourth part discusses the social value reflected in the documentary "keeping the dream life".The fifth part analyzes the innovation and deficiency of the documentary in the creative process.
