A Study On The Efficient "6+1" Teaching Mode In English Listening And Speaking Teaching In High Schools

The new English curriculum has put forward some new requirements in English teaching,the core of which is to cultivate students' comprehensive language competence.And listening and speaking is one of the most basic language skills as well as the most used forms in daily communication.However,the listening and speaking ability of Chinese students is not so optimistic.According to the data of the Academic Performance and Learning Behavior of Chinese Mainland Students in IELTS Tests published by the British Council in 2017,the English level of Chinese students is lower that of the world in average.And it is the listening and speaking ability that makes the difference.At the same time,the new English curriculum(2017 version)advocates that we should pay attention to the learning process of students,and that students will realize the language rules,grasp the language knowledge and skills,form the learning strategies and cultivate the self-learning ability by experience,participation,cooperation and exploration under the guidance of their teachers.But the traditional teaching modes can't satisfy these requirements any longer.In order to change this situation,the educators have always been exploring more effective teaching methods,and then the concept of high efficient class comes into being.The efficient "6+1"teaching mode,one of the high efficient class teaching modes,can fit in well with the requirements of the new English curriculum.Therefore,the author tries to apply the efficienti "6+1" teaching mode into English listening and speaking teaching and makes a study,with the hope of changing the present situation of the English listening and speaking teaching in traditional classes and finding a more effective mode.To achieve that goal,the author puts forward three questions for the study:1.How to apply the efficient "6+1" teaching mode into English listening and speaking class?2.What are the effects of the efficient "6+1" teaching mode on English listening and speaking class in senior high school?3.How to optimize the efficient "6+1" teaching mode in English listening and speaking class so as to better achieve its efficiency?Based on referencing and analyzing the related studies of effective teaching as well as listening and speaking teaching home and abroad,the author chose 123 students from two classes in Grade 2 and 12 English teachers of an ordinary senior high school in Guangdong province and carried out the study through contrast teaching experiment,questionnaires and interviews.After a year's contrast teaching experiment,the author used SPSS 23 to make deep analyses of the grades from two tests and the results from the questionnaires before and after the experiment,as well as collected and analyzed the results of the interviews.The main discoveries are as following:1.The efficient "6+1" teaching mode can be applied effectively into English teaching and speaking class through its six main teaching steps and the "Guided learning plan" well organized through one piece of paper.2.The efficient "6+1" teaching mode has a good effect on the teaching of listening and speaking.It can arouse students' positive learning emotion such as enhancing their learning interest,self-confidence and positive motivation.It can also improve the students' initiative to learn and increase the interactions in the class,which can improve the students' classroom learning efficiency greatly.Besides,it can both improve the students' grades as well as the competence of listening,speaking and communication.3.In order to better exert its high efficiency in listening and speaking class,we can strengthen the teachers' awareness of reform,optimize the design of the "Guided learning plan" as well as enhance the construction of learning groups.At last,we should make a flexible use of the teaching steps of the efficient "6+1" teaching mode so that it can serve the class better.This study has both theoretical and practical value.It can not only provide some ideas and references on creating more effective listening and speaking teaching modes,but also has inspiration on the reform of English listening and speaking teaching.
