In 2017,the Ministry of Education officially announced the "English Curriculum Standards for Senior High Schools(2017 Edition)",which proposed four core competence of English learning:First,improve the basic language ability,aimed at training students the basic skills of listening speaking,reading and writing.The second is to cultivate cultural awareness.The third is to form the independent thinking quality and the fourth is to improve the efficiency of English learning.It can be seen that English teaching is paying more and more attention to language ability training and language culture learning.Film materials provide authentic cultural background,thus the students will get a better taste of realistic spoken English.Besides,educators believe that the learner's memory works most actively and effectively when either his or her auditory and visual stores are stimulated by something that can engage his or her full attention.Through the study of high school English textbooks,the author finds that English movies can be carried out in all aspects of high school textbooks,such as warming up stage,reading stage and so on.Under the guidance of Motivation Theory and the Input Hypothesis,this paper describes how movies as a source of authentic audio-visual materials were put into the school curriculum and affects students learning.The research aims to find whether using English movies in English language teaching can help students in several ways,such as:(1)boost students' studying motivation(2)enhance students' language skills,and(3)develop an awareness and understanding of cultures in English-speaking countries and so on.The author launches the experiment which lasts for 3 months in XinYu No.4 middle school in Jiangxi province.The experiment mainly adopts questionnaires to describe the results and uses SPSS statistical analysis software to analyze the result of the experimental class and the controlled class.The results shows that English movie teaching method has a great impact on improving students' learning motivation,enhances their language skills and helps them foster their cultural knowledge.In the meantime,the paper also talks about the drawbacks and limitations of using English movie method in senior high school English teaching.At last through all the discussion and presentation,the paper reveals that using movies in English teaching is hard work,but if the teachers fully aware of its advantages and improve its inefficiency,it will certainly benefit students learning in many aspects,and is well worth trying.
