Contemporary western philosophy attaches importance to consciousness, among which research of analytic philosophy has already turned from language analysis to the philosophy of mind. This consists with the convergence trend of analytic philosophy and phenomenology. As a scholar who dabbled in multiple branches of philosophy,Peacocke has gained fruitful achievements and has influenced the research of lots of modern scholars.Peacocke's research focused on the philosophy of mind and epistemology. In his early research,he dedicated to the research of concept and made a neo-rationalism explanation called the Theory of Concept Possession. Then he dug deeper in the relationships among truth, proof and comprehension, illustrating how psychological state and its conceptual relationships provided reasons for judgement.Later,he discovered that the views above could explain the representing problems of nonconceptual first person in consciousness, and made detailed demonstrations in his book,The Mirror of the World: Subjects,Consciousness, and Self-Consciousness.This paper mainly discusses Peacocke's theory of first-person representation. After doing research on Peacocke's published articles and books, the author reviews Peacocke's philosophical thinking and focuses on consciousness, the representation of self-consciousness and the nonconceptual concept theory in representation.Comparative analysis and interdisciplinary method are used to obtain a deep and comprehensive understanding of Peacocke's theory of first-person representation. Also, this paper manages to find possible solutions for the dilemmas and challenges in Peacocke's theory so as to complete his theoretical framework. There are four parts in the main text.Part one mainly introduced three philosophers who had major influence on Peacocke's theory of first-person representation.Comparative analysis was done on the relationships among their ideologies and their influence on Peacocke. And there was a brief presentation of Peacocke's non-conceptual theory and self-consciousness theory.Part two demonstrated the peculiarity of subjective position in first person representation from the view of ontology. Then, from the perspective of epistemology,it analyzed the priority of first-person representation. In addition, the content and rules in the theory of non-conceptual first-person representation were demonstrated from the point of methodology.Part three discussed the significance of Peacocke's theory of first-person representation. On the one hand,it illustrated the essence of self-consciousness,and on the other hand,Peacocke offered new ways of thinking for the research of the philosophy of mind.Part four pointed out that Peacocke overlooked time dimension in his theories and there were some conceptual theories in the need to be advised.Proper solutions were raised to fix these problems.
