Although English teachers in high schools give much concern to writing teaching, teaching effect is far from satisfactory and students' writing ability is quite weak. Some researchers have explored the relationship between reading and writing, and have repeatedly verified the teaching effects of “Reading-to-Writing”.But related study of reading-based imitative writing(RBIW)is rare since this teaching strategy is seldom applied to English writing teaching.Based on the Memetics, the Input Hypothesis and the Output Hypothesis, this study tries to apply reading-based imitative writing to English writing teaching in high schools for investigating its effects on writing accuracy. The study is for answering the following three questions: 1)What is the impact of RBIW on the lexical accuracy of English writing of senior high school students? 2)What is the impact of RBIW on the grammar accuracy of English writing of senior high school students? and 3)What is the impact of RBIW on reducing Chinglish expression in English writing of senior high school students? In a 10-week writing teaching experiment, the study emphasizes the integration of writing with reading by selecting six reading materials from New Concept English 4.For the experiment,60 students were randomly selected from two classes in a high school of Yueyang City. The control class of 30 students were taught in the regular writing teaching mode, while the experimental class were taught in the RBIW mode. This study adopts research methods of questionnaire survey and testing, and employs SPSS 23.0 to analyze the collected data. The study finds that 1)compared with regular writing teaching modes,RBIW has no significant effect on lexical accuracy of English writing of senior high school students due to the insufficient input, lacking in full understanding of the vocabulary of the students, and errors in imitating vocabulary meme;2)RBIW has significant positive impact on grammatical accuracy of English writing of senior high school students and helps students pay attention to language forms and syntactic structures from the reading materials;and 3)RBIW can reduce Chinglish expression to a certain extent, making the written expression more accurate, because the reading materials inspire students to reflect on the differences in thinking modes and cultural backgrounds between English and Chinese, and they help students to analyze the differences between their expressions and the target language.Theresults also prove that imitative writing based on reading is feasible and effective, which has positive effects on English writing accuracy of senior high school students.
