| Against the backdrop of the comprehensive opening of two-child policy in China, how to educate and nurture infants is of great significance. This makes people attach great importance to early childhood education. They should not only learn from parenting experience from their own country, but also be good at learning advanced foreign parenting concepts. Therefore, the translation of works related to parenting experience is becoming more and more important.Chapters 3 to 5 of Planning and Observation of Children Under Three are selected in this translation practice. It mainly introduces how early educators use a series of observation and planning strategies to promote children’s social, emotional, physical and cognitive development.Based on the translation equivalence theory of J.C.Catford,the author takes the Chinese translation of these three chapters as a practical case, analyses the difficulties involved in the process of educational text translation, and explores effective translation strategies and methods. This report is divided into five parts. The first part briefly outlines the translation tasks of educational texts, which consists of task background and significance. The second part analyses the translated text, which includes text content and characteristics. The third part introduces in detail the whole process of translation of educational texts, including the selection and application of theories, the preparation of translation tools, the preliminary translation of educational texts and the proofreading of translation. The fourth part, the core of this translation report, mainly discusses the case analysis based on Catford’s translation equivalence theory. In order to make readers basically have the same feeling of the original readers, the author mainly focuses on the translation difficulties of chapter three to five of Planning and Observation of Children Under Three and analyzes the vocabulary, sentence patterns and discourse guided by formal correspondence and textual equivalence.Specifically, the author first uses conversion, contextual translation and omission to achieve the accurate translation of vocabulary.Secondly, the author adopts the "three-step" translation method to make logical analysis and information reorganization of sentences. Finally, the cohesion and coherence of discourse can be achieved by omitting and restoring pronouns, adding information and omitting and transforming functional words. The last part summarizes the translation practice report, and analyses the experience gained by the author, the unsolved problems and the shortcomings in the process of translation.Generally speaking, this translation practice has the following meanings.Firstly, from the author’s point of view, this translation project helps the author acquire relevant knowledge about children’s education, better understand the application of translation theory and translation methods, and provides a good opportunity to improve the translation ability.Secondly, this translation report enjoys theoretical significance. In translating chapter three to five of Planning and Observation of Children Under Three, the author adopted J.C.Catford’s Equivalence Theory as the theoretical guidance, hoping to provide valuable reference for the translation of such texts. Finally, the report also has certain social significance. This translation practice is mainly aimed at early educators and parents in order to make them have a better understanding of parenting knowledge. Therefore, translating foreign parenting books can not only help target readers learn from advanced parenting concepts, but also contribute to the development of parenting culture and related industries. |
