On The Evolution Of Women's Self-Construction In Lin Bai's Novels

As a controversial representative writer of "Feminist Writing" and "Personalized Writing" in Contemporary Chinese Literature,Lin Bai paid attention to the writing of women's sexual desire and privacy psychology in her earlier works.During the period,the female characters in her works totally rejected the society and daily life,and were eager to escape from the male dominated society,thus constructed a private world belonging to women themselves.However,as female personalized writing gradually falling into the dilemma of material repetition writing and being consumed in the commercial society."Escape" of women in Lin Bai's works had also entered a state of "In Circles".But Lin Bai's writing is changeable.With the appearance of "All Flowers Bloom","Women's gossip" and other novels,the theme of her works has suddenly broadened.Although she still pays attention to the unique experience and feelings of women,she has started focus on the daily life and explored the bottom of the society.The mysterious,enchanting and lonely women in the previous novels have transformed themselves into a group of cheerful,lively,rough and natural rural women,who make fun of the misery of life,have no scruples,embrace the world and life warmly.In Lin Bai's recent novels "To 1975" and "To the North",these female images have became more rational.A group of female intellectuals who are liking recalling and rethink profoundly appear in the novels.They have left the private female world and entered into a vast real life with the lively and happy rural women.These changes in Lin Bai's works are most distinctly focused on women's self-construction.As a writer concerned about women's individual,how to shape women's image,how to write themselves and how to construct women are all Lin Bai's concerns.This paper,centering on Lin Bai's novel text and starting from the change of women's self-construction in her works,demonstrates the uniqueconnotation of Lin Bai's novels from three aspects: the change of discourse mode,female image and the significance to Chinese contemporary literature.The first part of the thesis expresses the changing process of Lin Bai's novel discourse mode from the appearance of "private discourse" in his earlier works to the opening of "daily discourse" in the transitional period,and then to the convergence of the two discourses.The second part is the transformation of female subjective consciousness from female characters,family professional identity and the relationship with other characters.In the last part,through the influence of literary background and social environment on writers' creation in the 1980 s,the process of breaking through autobiographical writing,and the blending of super-gender consciousness and female consciousness,the feminine ego-subject sense in Lin Bai's novels is further explained.
