Higashino Keigo(???????),born in Osaka on February 4,1958,is one of the most talked-about mystery novelists in modern Japan.Higashino Keigo engaged himself into the Japanese literary world in 1980s.In 2006,he won the Naoki Prize and the Honkaku Mystery Award for The Devotion of Suspect X(???X???),becoming a Triple Crown of the top three Japanese mystery novels ranking lists never seen before in history.Since then,Higashino Keigo has been recognized as“The King Of Best-Selling”in the Japanese mystery novel industry,whose works enjoy wide popularity and preference.It is fair to say that in modern Japan,very rare writers have stable quantity,quality of works and readership like him.After the sensation he made in japan,Higashino Keigo's works were immediately translated and introduced into China,and gradually caught the attention of Chinese readers as well as their familiarity and preference.“Police Detective Kaga Series” represents the best exemplifications of Higashino Keigo's writing characteristics and writing achievements.These novels select the course of development after graduation from college of the hero Kaga Kyoichiro as narrative context,and highlight his personality features such as diligence and seriousness,preciseness and calm,and sense of redemption.“Police Detective Kaga Series” includes 10 mystery books:Graduation,The Forest in Sleep,Who Killed Her,Malice,I Killed Him,Just One More Lie,The Red Finger,Newcomer,Beautiful Wings,When the Curtain of Prayer Descend.It is widely-accepted that the narrative method of novels holds a crucial importance to the formulation of text connotation and the deepening of main idea.Through the review of research results concerning Police Detective Kaga Series,it is found that the theme of the works and images of women have always been the hot spots of scholar concern,while the analysis of the narrative features are quite rare.To this end,this paper,based on the previous research results,conducts a comprehensive and in-depth analysis of the narrative features of Higashino Keigo's Police Detective Kaga Series mystery novels form the perspective of narratology,as well as the relationship between different characters,the characters themselves,the character and the plot.On this account,the literary value and aesthetic value of Higashino Keigo's mystery novels is explored,the anti-typed writing style of typed mystery novels concerning textual narrative is demonstrated,and the aesthetic characteristics of his narrative texts featuring rebellion,aposiopesis,reform,and surpass of conventional mystery novels are displayed.This paper consists of five sections.Apart from the Introduction and the Conclusion,and the body contains three chapters.In the Introduction part,it probes into the current creating status of Higashino Keigo,and the general situation of Police Detective Kaga Series.It also conducts a review and evaluation of the research status of Higashino Keigo's mystery novels both at home and abroad.Meanwhile,it attempts to define the concept and connotation of “typed” and “anti-typed”,and introduces the research methods applied by this paper.The first chapter,through close textual reading,explains three main character images in mystery novels.With the help of anti-conventional techniques,the author portrayed characters such as the hero Kaga Kyoichiro,criminals,insiders that had often been ignored,etc.,focusing on their living conditions in today's Japan.By means of the demonstration of these characters' choices and destinies,the modern Japanese society is observed from various perspectives.In Chapter 2,this paper intends to apply related narratology theories to discuss the narrative techniques of Police Detective Kaga Series including the presenting of consciousness,the viewpoint selection,the spatial structure,the communication patterns,etc.Chapter 3 mainly resorts to aesthetics of reception and narrative as rhetoric theories to demonstrate the form of expression and aesthetic characteristics of mystery novels.It conducts an analysis of the question that how the open narrative structure of Police Detective Kaga Series plays a significant role in their invitation to readers and filling the semantic blanks during aesthetic judgement,as well as the aesthetic value and significance displayed in the works.The Conclusion section draws a summary of the whole paper.It is demonstrated that as a“social” mystery novelist,Higashino Keigo applies means of realistic description in his mystery novels to reflect on multiple deficiencies of the Japanese society via the description of the living situation of individuals.The unique narrative modes of Police Detective Kaga series result from the author's reform and innovation of conventional mystery novels.The author abandons the ivory-towered “orthodox school”,and the “social school” featuring outdated techniques of expression.Instead,he carves himself the “realistic orthodox school”characterized by warm realism,providing mystery novels with new creation techniques and thoughts.Thus,the books of this series show their special value and charm on the path of mystery novels' breaking down of “typed” barriers.
