National English Curriculum Standards of Senior High School(2017 edition)stresses the development of students' key competences of English subject.Key competences of English subject are the concentrated embodiment of its educational value,including linguistic competence,culture awareness,thinking quality and learning ability.Post-reading phase is necessary in English reading teaching of Senior High.Post-reading activities aim to make students use what they have learnt to express their personal meanings and emotions and improve their abilities of analyzing and solving problems.Post-reading activities play an important role in the development of students' key competences of English subject.However,in current English reading teaching,teachers attach importance to pre-reading and while-reading activities,but make light of post-reading activities.The phenomenon that teachers prefer input to output is serious,which makes the development of students' key competences of English subject difficult in post-reading phase.The study employs questionnaire survey,classroom observation and teacher interview to study the problems of post-reading activities of English reading teaching in senior high schools.First,through the questionnaire survey and the classroom observation,it is found that there are four problems of post-reading activities :(1)the thinking training of post-reading activities is insufficient for students;(2)post-reading activities are not closely related to the theme of the text;(3)post-reading activities lack reasonable situations;(4)the type of post-reading activities is not plentiful.Second,through the teacher interviews,it is found that most teachers lack profound understanding of key competences of English subject.Based on the above problems,the reasons behind them are analyzed.Finally several proposals are made based on the research findings:(1)strengthen the theoretical learning of key competences of English subject and make it practical;(2)value the thinking quality of post-reading activities to improve the thinking quality of students;(3)strengthen the awareness of the theme to improve students' language ability;(4)create reasonable situations to develop students' ability of transfer and innovation.
