A Comparative Research Between Wang Xiaobo And William Golding's Anti-utopian Novels

With the emergence of utopian literature,people seem to see hope and try to put the beautiful pictures that are fascinating into practice.However,people have gotten into trouble when they practice utopia,such as the wicked social background,the dark totalitarian rule and the evil lurking in human nature,which made people begin to doubt the realization of utopia.Under the severe environment,anti-utopia finally appeared.Wang Xiaobo and William Golding,as "literary masters" and "fable writers" respectively in the history of literature,have resigned from teaching positions and specialized in writing.They both have experienced the darkest era in history —— the Cultural Revolution and the World War Two.They had deep understanding of the current social situation and were soberly aware that utopia's dreams would eventually be shattered.The future world still form a big attraction to them.Therefore,they created numerous anti-utopian novels,the purpose is concerned about people's living conditions.This thesis uses parallel research methods and explores and studies them with existentialism theory,trying to clarify the similarities and differences between Wang Xiaobo and William Golding's anti-utopian novels.Five chapter composes this thesis:chapter one defines the meaning of anti-utopia and teases the creation situation of anti-utopian novels.Chapter two analyzes the difficulties that characters come across in the anti-utopian novels of two writers according to the ages of the characters.The reaction and resistance are also discussed in this chapter.Chapter three analyzes the humor manifestation mode and humor effect of Wang Xiaobo and William Golding's anti-utopian creations from the perspective of humor narrative.Chapter four mainly discusses differences of these two writers' creations and the reasons of causes that lead to these differences.Chapter five summarizes these two writers' anxiety and introspection of human condition.This article aims to dig out the realistic value and significance of the works by making a contrast of the similarities and differences between the anti-utopian novels created by Wang Xiaobo and William Golding.
