Light And Painting

Light in fact has a very important role in painting.For an artist,the presentation of light is not just a way to reproduce the objective world,but instead an approach to organize the whole picture and to express subjective emotions.Nowadays,the human race has got more ways to produce light,therefore the light in our life becomes even more complicated than before – furthermore,there are more possibilities for the application of light in the process of painting.The paper makes a brief statement on the application as well as the value of light in painting,spanning such a long period from prehistoric period,the Renaissance Period,the medieval age,the Impressionism period until the modern art period.It shows that with the continuous development of our science and technology,the forms of light application have been greatly varied.However,in the background of such constant development in our age,light as a direct art object still has some more possibilities for us to explore since the majority of light art is presented based on light beam,time and certain applications,rather than realizes its expression using light itself as the theme.The paper then analyzes the light that appears in the works of James Turrell and some other art masters,so as to bridge the abovementioned gap;and then,by combining my personal creation,it continues to state that light,as a kind of artistic theme,is also an element in art,so we can try to make an integration of the abstract expression of light in the space and graphical drawing,so that we can finally find out some new possibilities for light application in the fields of modern painting.
