Teaching evaluation is an important part in the teaching process.It mainly includes formative evaluation and summative evaluation.According to The research at home and abroad,it shows that formative assessment plays a very important role in promoting students' learning and improving teachers' teaching.However,it is tough to collect and analyze the students' learning evidence for the traditional formative assessment,which makes the implementation more difficult.With the development of the combination of IT and teaching,we can transfer offline formative assessment to online.Moodle is an open source teaching management system based on constructivism.The evaluation of activity module design is very close to formative evaluation.It can realize a more complete evaluation system.It meets the requirements of multiple evaluation criteria,and is more suitable for the design and development of students' activities in curriculum teaching.Therefore,this paper attempts to explore the following research question in English reading teaching with the help of Moodle: what influences does Moodle-based formative assessment will have on English reading teaching?In this study,196 freshmen majoring in midwifery in Huizhou Health Sciences Polytechnic were chosen as subjects to carry out a 16-week teaching experiment.Four research methods were mainly used,that is,the literature analysis method,the investigation research method,the interview method and the experimental research method.First of all,in order to investigate the differences of English proficiency between the EG and the CG,the two groups were pretested with the reading part of the CET-4 test in June 2018.Meanwhile,a questionnaire survey about English learning on Moodle was distributed in the EG.The questionnaire was based on Wen Qiufang's(2004)questionnaire on English learning strategies,combined with the reality of the study and modified by many experts.The final questionnaire was composed of 30 questions,using the Likert scale,including four dimensions----learning attitude,learning strategy,views on evaluation and Moodle.Secondly,during the experiment,Moodle-based formative assessment was implemented in the EG,while in the CG the traditional teaching evaluation model was implemented.Classroom observation and interview ran through the whole experiment.Finally,the EG and the CG were tested after the reading part of the CET-4 test in December 2017,and the questionnaire survey was carried out in the EG again.Through the analysis of the collected experimental data,the conclusions are as follows:(1)Moodle-based formative assessment can help students change the students' learning strategies;(2)Moodle-based formative assessment can help students develop good reading habits;(3)Moodle-based formative assessment can influence the students' opinions on the assessment;(4)Moodle-based formative assessment can effectively improve students' English reading skills.Therefore,the Moodle-based formative assessment is feasible and effective in English reading teaching.
