| Olafur Eliasson is a popular natural science artist in recent years.He tried to find inspiration from scientific methods and engages the dialogue between artistic language and science in artistic creation.“Olafur Eliasson:The unspeakable openness of things”was exhibited at the Red Brick Art Museum in Beijing on March 25th,2018.This is Eliasson’s largest solo exhibition in China so far.The exhibition presents 12 sets of large immersive installations,sculptures and paper works in the garden,Round Hall and 8 exhibition halls of the Red Brick Art Museum.Studio Elafur Eliasson:An Encyclopedia,a book by Studio of Eliasson,shows that the artist is good at using scientific methods to create works,while the concepts of time and space produced by Western philosophical thoughts almost run through his entire artistic creation career,especially the immersive installation works using ice and water,light effects and mirror elements.Furthermore,Immersive Art emphasizes sensory experience.Through interaction with works of art,the audiences can gain experience of time and space with body perception.The topic of this dissertation is based on the great environment of the change of art forms under the influence of science and technology,taking Eliasson’s immersive installation works as the research object,on the basis of combing the relationship between Western Art History and time and space,starting with Western philosophical theories,focus on the philosophical viewpoints of Henri Bergson,Henri Lefebvre,Michel Foucault and Fredric R.Jameson,and interpret the concept of time and space used in Eliasson’s immersive installations.The practical significance of the study of Eliasson’s immersive installation works is that,taking the“openness”feature of his works as a guide,to think about ways to establish a positive interaction between the audience and the artwork,broaden the artist’s creative vision and update the theoretical thinking of art research. |
