The translated work for this report is from part of the original On Photography Walter Benjamin compiled by Esther Leslie,a professor of Department of English and Humanities at the University of London's Birkbeck School. She has collected seven chapters in the history and aesthetics of Walter Benjamin's writing.Due to Walter Benjamin's esoteric thoughts, the composer East Leslie wrote an introduction before the book, summarizing the development of German photography during the growth of Walter Benjamin as well as Benjamin's photographic ideas to help readers understand Benjamin's photographic thoughts integrally. This translation report is based on the Chinese translation of the introductory part of the book and analyzes the issues arising in the process of translation. The report is divided into four parts. The first part introduces the basic situation and project significance. The second part briefly describes the process of the translation, including the author's preparation and the monitoring during the process. The third is to analyze the cases which means the translation strategies used during the process of translation. The fourth part is the post-translation summary and reflection.Among them, the case analysis is the core content of this report. The author uses Yan Fu's "faithfulness, expensiveness and elegance" as the translation guide, applying translation strategies such as semantic supplementation, semantic extension, word formation, word order conversion, amplification, domestication translation and syntactic linearity to accurately understand the original content and convey the information to the reader in a complete and accurate manner,so that the translation faithfully reflects the original meaning and is readable.Having finished the practice of this translation project, the author recognized the importance of preparation before translation, using translation skills properly and cooperative consciousness. The full understanding of the source text is the basis for faithful translation. It requires translators to make good preparations, including reading parallel texts, researching background information, and understanding the writing situation,so as to choose translation strategies properly. At the same time, based on the faithfulness principle, the translation should be as readable as possible which can not only provide reference for professional research, but also satisfy the interests of non-professionals,so that readers can easily obtain text information. In the end, good translation cannot be separated from the translator's solid English-Chinese language knowledge, extensive knowledge and quite large of translation practices, which are also the professional requirement for a translator.
