A Report On English-Chinese Translation Of Editorials For LatAm Dynamics

Based on the translator's experience of translating English editorials related to Latin America into Chinese,this report mainly discusses difficulties and possible solutions when translating editorials for the reference of any future translation study or practice in the relevant field.Given the growing connection between China and Latin America,especially when the region has recently been involved in China's One Belt One Road initiative,the translation project can help Chinese readers have an expansive as well as deeper understanding of the region,thus in return benefiting the international communicatio n.In chapter one,the introduction of translation project and description of text features are presented.Together with the vigorous language in the source text,requirement of language style from the client indicates the reason why domestication is chosen by the tra nslator to guide her work.In chapter two,description of pre-translating and while-translating takes center stage,followed by the translator's own demands or expectations of the translation.In chapter three,the translator analyzes difficulties and accordingly offers her solutions for(1)translating words like terms and idioms,(2)dealing with cultural and language differences embodied in rhetorical devices like pun and allusion,(3)understanding and expressing the logic which is either bewildering or inadequate of details,and(4)meeting the demand of the client that translation of title should tell the fact and/or attitude by means of rewriting based on a full understanding of the whole text.Chapter four shares the translator's methods to achieve domestication.From the linguistic level,Culture-loaded expressions can be used to localize the text;as far as stylistic devices are concerned,replacement of domestic image and borrow of allusion are feasible ways to conform the text to Chinese context.Beyond the linguistics level,the translator brings up the idea of thinking pattern domestication,including narrative pattern,ideology and common knowledge.In the last chapter,evaluation of the translation is given followed by the significance and findings of this report.
