Sight Interpreting always involves multiple tasks,which require various aptitudes such as excellent reading comprehension,good short-term memory,solid bilingual knowledge and fluent public speaking skills.Thus proper aptitude training and theoretical guideline are essential for an interpreter.Syntactic Linearity,as the most important guiding principle for sight interpretation,is commonly utilized by interpreters.Conversion technique is effective to achieve the smoothness and fluency of interpretation.Guided by Syntactic Linearity,converting words and syntactical structures is essential to gain dynamic equity of meaning.English emphasizes the coherence of grammatical forms while Chinese highlights the unity of meaning.This paper is intended to illustrate the connection between sight interpretation and Syntactic Linearity.Definitions of both will be explained to display the logical connection and necessity of the application of SL in SI.Guided by the SL strategy,conversion principles and techniques will be illustrated and expounded in details in hope of gathering useful experiences in terms of sight interpretation.
