As outstanding representatives of Chinese classical gardens,Suzhou classical gardens contain rich elements of Chinese culture. The source text of this translation project is the tourist texts of the classical gardens in Suzhou. It is selected from World Heritage Series: Suzhou Classical Gardens(2008),which is published by the Shanghai World Book Inc.The translation goal is to complete the English translation of the text with high quality, introduce the classical gardens in Suzhou, and let more English readers know about the gardens in Suzhou and the Chinese culture. The project chooses Skopos Theory as the guiding theory of the translation practice to realize the primary task, that is,the target readers' understanding of the basic knowledge of Chinese classical gardens.Based on the linguistic and cultural characteristics of the text, the corresponding solutions to translation difficulties are put forward, including adapting to the linguistic features of the target language and supplementing Chinese cultural information. This translation practice report consists of five chapters: introduction of translation projects, task process, translation guidance theory, translation difficulties and solutions, and summary of practice. The first chapter mainly introduces the basic information and the significance of the translation project.Chapter two describes briefly the process of the translation project, including pre-translation preparation and planning,post-translation inspection and proofreading.Chapter three is about the guiding theory of the translation. It introduces Skopos Theory and the translation principles under the guidance of Skopos Theory.Chapter Four analyses the linguistic and cultural features of the text, and puts forward corresponding solutions to the difficulties encountered in the process of translation. The fifth chapter is a summary of this translation practice. It is hoped that this study will provide some references for future translation activities.
