Vocabulary,as the most important part of English learning,has attracted much attention from educators and learners.However,in the English vocabulary teaching in junior middle schools,the situation of vocabulary learning by rote still exists.Traditional vocabulary class only focuses on memorizing word,which ignores the interests of students' vocabulary learning.Under the background of MAI(multimedia-assisted instruction),video materials walks in to classroom,the new teaching method has appeared in the vocabulary classroom.And English vocabulary teaching combines with video materials has become the new trend of teaching English vocabulary.This study aims to explore the use of video materials in English vocabulary learning for junior middle school students and to confirm the effectiveness of video materials in English vocabulary learning.Three research questions are to be addressed:1: What effects does the video materials have on learners' interests for junior middle school students' English vocabulary acquisition?2: What are the students' perceptions towards memorizing English vocabulary after the video materials have been conducted?3: To what extent does the video materials improve students' vocabulary acquisition?This experimental research was conducted at in Beitazi Junior Middle School in Beitazi Town,Beipiao City,Liaoning Province.It lasted 16 weeks from August 27 th,2018to December 31 st,2018.Ninety students from two parallel classes in the Grade 8 were selected as participants.Class One class was set as the control class and Class Two serves as the experimental class.The research methods includes questionnaires,interview and tests.All collected data were analyzed from them by qualitative and quantitative analysis methods.The research findings show that video materials contribute to students in EC(experimental class)to memorize vocabulary more effective,in particular,the interests of students' leaning vocabulary is significantly improved.Besides,the EC students' perceptions towards English vocabulary leaning has changed,students' vocabulary acquisition has also improved.Therefore,teaching English vocabulary with video materials is feasible and effective.Finally,pedagogical implications and suggestions are discussed for English vocabulary teaching and further research.
