In the field of cognitive linguistics,in recent years,a large number of researchers have turned their attention to the study of human’s ability of inhibition control(hereinafter referred to as IC).In the study of the difference in IC,there are numerous comparative studies at home and abroad among participants with different ages, educational levels, language proficiency and working memory abilities. The research results are very rich, but there are very few studies on the differences within individuals after a period of development, almost less domestic, and most of them focus on comparing different individuals at different time. The inferences and empirical studies need to be supplemented. At the same time, there are fewer studies on the development of the differences in IC between English interpreting and translation students. Therefore, this study takes English interpreting and translation students as participants, and discusses the differences in the development of IC among two majors, and how the differences between the two majors change after an academic year.If there is a change, whether it appears in the second or third session, and whether this development trend has something to do with translation ability or different major courses, these are new research directions in the IC and all worth exploring. This study selected postgraduate students of the 2017 MTI major(a group of interpreting and a group of translation)from Beijing International Studies University and conducted Stroop task at three time points.T1 is one month after term beginning;t2 is at the end of the firs term;t3 is at the end of the second term. The contents of three sessions are same. Each session consists of three tasks and the Stroop effect paradigm was used for three tasks: the first task is Stroop Task in Language and Color. It is used to test the IC of the participants under non-linguistic interference and simple linguistic interference. The second task is Stroop Task For Chinese Processing. It is conducted to investigate the differences in the suppression of inappropriate semantic interference between the two majors under Chinese condition;the third task is Stroop Task For Bilingual Processing, which tested the IC of linguistic interference under Chinese and English conditions by bilingual color naming tasks. After the data collection,SPSS 22.0 was used to analyze and compare the changes in the IC of the two majors’ students after an academic year of major learning, and whetherthere was any difference between interpreting and the translation changed.Whether the change occurs in the second experiment or the third experiment, and whether the trend of this development has something to do with the different oriented courses. The results show that after an academic year, the two groups showed significant changes in the Stroop Task in Language, indicating that the ability of the participants to suppress language interference was enhanced. In the Stroop Task in color, there is only the interpretation group that has a clear increase in the ability to suppress color interference, but the changes are not significant. At the same time, this experiment also found that in the Stroop Task For Bilingual Processing, the switching cost for two groups speaking from Chinese to English is significantly higher than the switching cost from English to Chinese at t1 and t2,indicating that the dominant effect of the mother tongue which was proposed by previous researcher. The only exception is that for interpreting group it is not significant at t1(the response time from English to Chinese is too high at t1,so the statistical value obtained is not significant);the switching cost of the two groups is no longer significant at t3,and the dominant effect of the mother tongue disappears, indicating that after an academic year, the bilingual conversion ability of the participants was enhanced. There was no significant difference between the two groups of subjects in the Stroop Task For Chinese Processing.
