Gladiator,a unique culture,formed in the transition period of the ancient Rome.The gladiator performance,the most popular entertainment in Rome,is closely linked to Roman religion,military,economy,culture,politics and its decline.This thesis systematically studies the relationship between gladiators and Roman politics during the transition period from the perspective of the origin of gladiators,changes of membership structures and the evolution of the gladiator performances.In the late Republican period,Mallory's military reform and Spartaco's uprising gave a powerful impetus to Rome's transition from the Republic and to the Empire.Romen traditional civil service began to be replaced by the recruitment system,and gladiators were no longer just entertainment tools for Roman dignitaries.At the same time,the gladiator also became a powerful tool for Roman conquest and later a political tool for the Roman ruling class to fight for power.This thesis attempts to study the basic characteristic of Rome in this special historical period from the relationship between the gladiators and the politics in the transition period so as to research more for Roman politics.This thesis is split into five chapters.Chapter one describes origin of the gladiator and the training of the gladiator in detail.Chapter two revolves around prosperity and evolution of gladiator performances.Understanding the development of gladiator performance and how to transform to the official.Chapter three,a series of revolutions caused by a many important events at the end of the Roman Republic,explaining the trend of transformation from republic to monarchy in Rome and analyzing the role and role of gladiators.Chapter four focuses on gladiators' influences on Roman politics during the transforming period of Rome and the relationship between them.Chapter five shows gladiators' influences on the decline of Roman Empire and reasons of the end of gladiator movement.In a word,Studying the relationship between gladiators and Roman politics can help us to understand the characteristics of Roman social transformation in a more comprehensive way.
