In order to improve the phonetics teaching of English teachers in the first grade of junior middle school,and to enhance the learners’ knowledge reserves in phonetics,investigating the current situation of English phonetics teaching in the first grade of junior middle school is particularly important.Literature studies have shown that English phonetic knowledge is of great significance to the language learners who are at the grade.The thesis aims to investigate the current status of the grade’s English phonetics teaching,and the following two questions are specifically studied:(1)What is the learning status of the first grade’s learners in this junior middle school?(2)What is the current teaching situation of the first grade’s teachers in this junior middle school?For quantitative analysis,the paper conducts questionnaire surveys of learners and teachers;for qualitative analysis,the thesis utilizes teacher interviews and classroom observations to ensure the authenticity and reliability.The first step of research progress is to implement the learner questionnaire survey to investigate the learners’ attitudes towards phonetic learning and their evaluation of the teachers’ phonetic teaching methods.The second step is to interview the teachers about their teaching methods,their learners’ phonetic learning status.The third step is to apply the teacher questionnaire survey which are mainly closed questions to inquiry the teaching methods of the teachers in the same grade.And the fourth step is to carry out classroom observation,in order to understand the real circumstances of a class’s language teaching,the author will take notes and shoot videos to record and then analyze it.According to the survey,it is finds that the main problems of English phonetics teaching in the first grade of junior middle school are the teachers’ phonetics teaching is not comprehensive and the phonetics teaching method is single.In order to solve these problems,there are four countermeasures can be taken to improve the evaluation system,allocate teaching time reasonably,strengthen teachers’ phonetic teaching knowledge,and change teachers’ phonetic teaching methods.This study explores the causes of phonetics problems thorough understanding of the status quo of phonetics learning and teaching in the first grade of junior middle school,besides,it puts forward corresponding countermeasures for English phonetics teaching.Finally,the author concludes that the teaching of English phonetics in the first grade of junior middle school should be paid more attentions.And only by solving the problems of phonetics,can the teaching effect be improved.
