Lost in Perfection--Impacts of Optimisation on Culture and Psyche is edited by Vera King,Benigna Gerisch,Hartmut Rosa. The report is based on the translation of the forth chapter of this book,”‘Fitter, happier, more productive':optimising time with technology”.In this chapter, the author will explore the paradoxes of time's relationship with technology. How and why does the abundance of time-saving technologies make people feel busier, somehow making our lives both easier and more stressful? This translation text contributes to making people know about the relationship between technology and time,as well as impacts on culture and psyche.Under the guidance of Peter Newmark's communicative and semantic translation theory, this translation was conducted. This theory emphasizes that the effect of a translation on the target readers should be equal to the original readers as far as possible.According to this theory and the specific translation difficulties, such as terms, long and complicated sentences, the translator mainly adopts the translation strategy of domestication and the translation techniques of division, amplification, recasting, and conversion and so on.This report consists of five chapters. The first chapter is a brief introduction to background, significance and structure of the report. The second chapter mainly describes the author, main content and linguistic features of source text. The third chapter discusses the guiding theory--communicative translation theory and its application. The fourth chapter explores the translation difficulties and translation techniques to tackle them. The fifth chapter is to summarize the lessons the author has learned and problems unsolved.
