This is a report on mock conference interpreting, whose material is excerpts from the welcome remarks delivered by speakers of the Third Annual China-U.S.University Sports&Education Summit, which aimed to expand channels for collegiate sports exchanges and enhance cultural and people-to-people links between China and the United States, and pave the way for building China into a world sports power. Before writing this report, the author completed a mock simultaneous interpreting task based on the material. Then,he conducted a systematic analysis of difficulties he had faced in the process through his interpreting experience and relevant professional books, and finally he put forward feasible solutions. Those difficulties included culture-loaded words, repetition of words and phrases and allusions from ancient Chinese stories in C-E interpreting;and English idioms, proper nouns and obscure information in E-C interpreting. And the strategies includede licitation, omission and prediction for C-E interpreting, and domestication, adding reasonable information, omission and syntactic linearity for E-C interpreting. The author has been learning Chinese-English and English-Chinese interpreting for nearly five years, during which he has encountered bottlenecks, and needs to hone his interpreting skills by carrying out an analysis of and summarizing this mock interpreting task.Meanwhile,he hopes that this report can provide reference for interpreting learners, teachers and practitioners in the future.
