Research On Zoomorphism Aesthetics In The Dunhuang Grottoes

The decorative patterns of Dunhuang zoomorphism aesthetics is an important subject of artistic expression.There is a variety of zoomorphism.They are shown on the decoration in the story paintings,sutra paintings of zoomorphism aesthetics.They are also used as decorations on the caisson,edging and other patterns.While retaining the dynamic characteristics of the animals in the natural world,many zoomorphic imageries are seen as the exaggeration and generalization of the animals.This paper attempts to explore the decorative features of the zoomorphism of Dunhuang cave art from the perspective of decorative beauty.The research methods are as follows:first,the author reviews and summarizes a large number of images and books on the image of Dunhuang zoomorphism aesthetics.Second,the author comes up with an analysis of the existing image of the Dunhuang zoomorphism,in which the author seeks the law of beauty behind the patterns.This study analyzes decorative aesthetic through the color,shape,composition,technique of expression and artistic style of Dunhuang zoomorphism.Building on the basis of such analysis,it proposes ways to apply zoomorphism to modern design.The aims of the research are,1)to establish a database of Dunhuang zoomorphism and provide reference for modern decorative design;2)to explore the law of beauty embodied in the image of zoomorphism and expound on the fundamental principles of decorative design,so as to offer a theoretical basis for the creation of zoomorphism in modern decorative design.
