The study of monochrome has not been uninterrupted whether at home or abroad.In the west,from ancient times,writers and philosophers have already discussed the painting practice of primarily black and white.While in the east,due to the specific painting habits and aesthetics of artists,they have also showed special emotions towards monochrome.In this paper,we start from an exhibition which was opened by one of London national galleries and also was the first one composed entirely by monochrome paintings and installation art associated with monochromatic,combines with the exhibition and the related materials,discusses the role of "monochrome" in painting history and its development and application in prints,hoping to get either empirical or perceptual enlightenment,which will inspire the author own creative practice.First,in order to bring up a discussion on the history and characteristics of monochrome painting,this paper starts from an etching self-portrait of Rembrandt in 1639,then discusses the monochrome etching and dry point techniques used by Rembrandt,its optimization and the sublimation of emotional expression brought by monochrome.Secondly,this paper depicts the development process of monochrome painting and its unique feature through a brief history of monochrome painting,and take a few famous examples for further explain.Finally,point cut from the perspective of prints,to discuss the possibility of the application of monochrome as an artistic means in artistic creation.At present,as a way of viewing or restricting viewing,we choose monochrome as a means of expression again,what positive significance does monochrome have for exploring the artistic creation of images and texts or prints? On the fundamental question of how we view the art,what positive effect does this creative method have,and has it changed our old style?...
