Yuan Ying is a eminent monk in the modern times Buddhist circles in China.He had made excellent contributions to revitalizing the enterprise of Chinese Buddhism in argumentation and practice.Yuan Ying in the spirit of Buddha’s accession to the world,in the Buddhist theory to lucubrate the argumentation,in the practice to positive Buddhist preaching.He paid attention to the promotion and development of the Mahayana Dharma which in the process of he expound the texts of Buddhism.In the explanation of Awakening of Mahayana Faith,Yuan Ying was based on his own Buddhist thought,referred to the classic,absorbed various theories,especially the Buddhist thought of Tiantai Sect and Huayan school,forned his Thusness thought with the characteristics of harmony.The uniqueness of Yuan-Ying’s Thusness thought is mainly expressed in four aspects:the connotation of Thusness,the relationship of essence-function in the Thusness thought,the running concept of Thusness,the realized method of Thusness.Yuan Ying’s Thusness connotation mainly includes:Thusness has the voidness,Tathagata-garbha is Alaya-consciousness,Dharmadhatu melt to the single-mindedness.Yuan Ying thinks that Thusness is Dharma-nature,the Dharma-nature is very universal in every Dharma,constan innutabily.It is impossible to get the constant nature in everything,Even if you get some ideas in mind,if you use wisdom to explore,there are no entity available.In other words,the permanent invariance of the Dharma is completely empty,this kind of completely empty is the thoroughness of the every Dharma:voidness,that is Dharma-nature.Yuan Ying coalesced the theory of Tathagata-garbha thought and Alaya-consciousness knowledge when he explained the Awakening of Mahayana Faith.He thoutht that Tathagata is a cause of good and bad.They are synonymous about Tathagata that as the cause of life and death of all beings,and Alaya-consciousness with seven consciousnesses smeary.He insisted the point of view about Lankavatara Sutra that Tathagata-garbha and Alaya-consciousness is different and no different,he thought that Tathagata-garbha is Alaya-consciousness.In addition,Yuan Ying attached the annotation about the Thusness in heart field of vision.In his view,Thusness is a single reality dharmadhatu,the dharmadhatu is full of the single-mindedness.From the door of Thusness aspect of the mind,the single-mindedness is Tathagata-garbha’s pure heart of its own nature.From the door of birth and death aspect of the mind,the single-mindedness is Alaya-consciousness that include the harmonized of birth and death and not.The truth of the single-mindedness is the sum and substance about all beings’ enlightment.The relationship of essence-function is manifested in two aspects in Yuan Ying’s thought:the door of Thusness aspect of the mind and the door of birth and death aspect of the mind,original enlightenment and initial enlightenment.In Awakening of Mahayana Faith,the door of Thusness aspect of the door of mind and the birth and death aspect of the mind that is opposite of defilement and purity.But Yuan Ying treated the relationship between the two doors from essence-function in his handout.Yuan Ying thought that its not opposite of the door of Thusness aspect of the mind and the door of birth and death aspect of the mind.It is body which the door of Thusness aspect of the mind,the appearance of causes and conditions in the door of birth and death aspect of the mind,is the "employ" of the "body",body never leave emply,and emply never leave body.In this way,it have reached integrate harmony of the two doors.The second aspect of the relationship of essence-function was mainly reflected in Yuan Ying’ explain about original enlightenment and innate enlightenment in the door of birth and death aspect of the mind.Yuan Ying put forward that original enlightenment is the original Buddha nature of all beings,also is the inherent wisdom of heart and mind,this is "body".Because the constant innutabily of such a "body",all living creatures be affected by ignorance and delusion who can get rid of their false troubles finally.After a lot of spiritual practice,that gradually get rid of the obsession,achievement of Buddha nature.And that is the process which produce the innate enlightenment’wisdom.Yuan Ying believed that original enlightenment being the achievement of all beings’ practice,it is an important aspect of Thusness’ s employ in the door of birth and death aspect of the mind.With such connotation of Thusness,Yuan Ying believed that the relationship between it and the realm of phenomena,it is mainly manifested in the running concept.Yuan Ying advocated that come true the Thusness mainly through Alaya-consciousness that have birth and death causation phase.Alaya-consciousness has intuition and non-enlightenment,it can made all the dharma of defilement and purit.It makes all beings on the move and exterminate in metempsychosis,because the perfumation of the the dharma of defilement.There are three main aspects of Yuan Ying’s Thusness thought in the running concept: from truth arises falsity,truth and falsity are unified,from falsity return truth.First,because of the truth of the original enlightenment accord with conditions,ignorance and delusion can perfumate Thusness,and generate every dharma of birth and death.Every activity consciousness and imprints can exist because of the perfumation of ignorance and non-enlightenment.These ignorance and non-enlightenment can generate from the Thusness.Second,because of the concordance of Alaya-consciousness,it leads to truth and falsity are unified,and continuous production of defilement and purity dharma.Third,there is no beginning and has end about the perfumation of defilement dharma,it has beginning and an end about the perfumation of purity dharma.So,it can make the ignorance disappear on account of the Thusnes perfumate ignorance.All living creatures can know the Thusnes nature of themself-possessed.Yuan Ying’s Thusness thought is finally implemented the spiritual practice.Mainly through two specific methods to achieve,that is practice of the stoppings and contemplations at the same time,and chant the name of Buddha.Yuan Ying believed that the practice of the stoppings and the contemplations is no bias,practice should be that the stoppings have the contemplations,and the contemplations have the stoppings,the stoppings and the contemplations are mutual aid and nondisjunction.Only in this way,it can deal with the fault of an ignorant person and two vehicles,Let’s keep it can’t stay on two sides of emptiness and existence,finally receive the Thusness Samadhi.Chant the name of Buddha is a shortcut to spiritual practice.As a special and convenient way to pronounce the Dharma of Buddhism.It can cross the three realms.From Yuan Ying’s point of view,Chanting the name of Buddha is suitable for any sentient beings to practice.Not only for those sentient beings whose foundations are shallow and confidence is easy to retreat.Chanting the name of Buddha is the easiest and most convenient way to practice,it can keep people’s confidence not fade,and perceive the Thusness and to be reborn with karma.
