Study On Modern Ethnic Construction And National Integration In Laos

The formation process of the modern Lao people is the process of the integrating the various ethnic groups into a new nation,that is the modern Laotians.In the early history,after Thai-speaking people entered Laos,they absorbed the local people that said Mon-Khmer language and gradually developed into Lao ethnic group.They have occupied the lowland plains for a long time.With their political power and cultural strength,they began to conquer the neighboring ethnic areas by force.The Lan Xang kingdom which appeared in Laos in the 14th century,should be the symbol of the formation of the modern Lao people.Similarly,French colonial rule played an indispensable role in Lao history.After the French invasion Laos,it further accelerated the transition Laos to the modern society.During this period,the French divides the border of Laos and initially established the territory of Lao nation.And ethnic groups began to enter Laos,breaking the original pattern.With the spread of early Lao nationalism,Lao’s national consciousness has gradually awaked.In the end,under the banner of the Lao Nationalist movement,the Lao people won the victory in the anti-colonial struggle and gained national independence.After its independence in 1954,Laos was deeply in the dilemma of civil war.Since then,it has undergone more than 30 years of political restructuring before reunification.During this time,the Lao people’s Party took the national reunification and national liberation as the primary goal,integrated the complex ethnic branches in the country with the ethnic "Lao" word-based national identification method,and mobilized them into the national liberation war.It was until 1975,that the Lao People’s Democratic Republic was established,which meat that Lao achieved the historical unity of multi-ethnic country.However,due to different historical culture,customs and religion in various ethnic groups in Laos,the integration of Laos is also a long process.In a word,based on the previous research results,this paper takes Laos’ modern ethnic composition as the point,the Lao’s integration as the theme,sorts out the historical development history of Laos,and expounds the formation of Lao nationality and the origin.In addition,the article will focus on the process of national integration after the founding of Laos in 1975.By listing the nation policies implemented by Laos government.This paper analyzes the different impacts of these nation measures on their ethnic integration and the achievement.
