A Report On The E-C Translation Of To Open Minds (Excerpt) Under The Translation Principles Of Faithfulness-Expressiveness-Elegance

Innovative education is a key point of the current educational reform.Therefore,the translator carries out the E-C translation of the third chapter of To Open Minds,which is a book written by Howard Gardner,a famous educator at Harvard University.The aim is to understand problems of Chinese educational innovation through foreigners' opinions and provide valuable references for our educational reform.This translation report,based on the source text,the target text and the translation process of To Open Minds(Chapter III),resorts to the contrastive study and case analysis to summarize problems that should be paid attention to and the translation methods that could be adopted in E-C translation of educational texts.The translation practice and analysis show that the translation of educational texts should not only conform to the original information,but also be expressive and clear.There are 5 parts in this report,namely,the introduction,translation process,theoretical framework,case analysis and conclusion.Chapter 1 makes a general introduction to the background and significance of the translation practice.Chapter2 describes the translation process,including pre-translation,in-translation,and after-translation.Chapter 3 mainly discusses the theoretical framework of this report.The translator makes a specific interpretation of Yan Fu's translation principles of “faithfulness,expressiveness and elegance” and makes analysis of the feasibility.Chapter 4 is an important part of this report.Under the guidance of faithfulness,expressiveness and elegance,the translator,combing with concrete examples,analyzes and summarizes the translation methods,like free translation,division,amplification,conversion,rhetorical methods.Chapter 5 contains a general summary of the translator's experience and limitations during the translation process.
