Since 1990 s,the study of language learning strategies has been neglected and researchers turned their attention towards self-regulation,which is more broader and well-defined than learning strategies.Generally,self-regulation is a dynamic mechanism of individual cognitive development from imbalance to balance, which people set their own standards of behavior, and use the rewards or punishments to control, strengthen, maintain or change their behaviors. And self-regulated learners refer to learners who regulate their behavior and strategies actively to attain goals, and would make an adjustment to their behaviors and strategies when they are unable to achieve self-set goals. And it is widely recognized that self-efficacy as “beliefs in one’s capability to organize and execute the courses of action required to manage propective situation”.That is to say, students’ actions depend on their beliefs rather than their real capabilities largely. On the basis of predecessors, combined with self-regulation and self-efficacy,this paper holds that self-regulation efficacy refers to the people’s ability about their perceptions to regulate themselves.Although considerable studies have investigated self-regulation and listening log in general education and other fields, few of them pay attention to self-regulation efficacy in EFL learning, especially to EFL listening comprehension. To solve this problem, the study aims to measure the students’ self-regulation efficacy in English listening and finding out whether learning log can improve students’ listening performances and self-regulation efficacy.According to the purpose of the present study, this study attempts to deal with the following questions:1)Can listening logs be helpful as a tool to improve high school students’ proficiency in English listening?2)Can listening log improve high school students’ self-regulation efficacy in listening? This thesis combined quantitative and qualitative research. The participants of this research were 84 senior high school students from one senior high school in Nanchang. The instruments were two listening proficiency tests,Perceived Academic Self-efficacy Scale(PASES)and listening log adopted from Wang(2017).With the analysis of the questionnaire data by SPSS 17.0,the study drew thefollowing conclusion by analyzing the qualitative research data of interviews:1).There is a significant difference in students’ listening proficiency between EC and CC after the experiment. It proves listening log can be helpful as a tool to improve high school students’ proficiency in English listening.2).According to the results of previous studies, the researcher analyized the extract data of students’ listening logs and observed students’ self-regulation learning process.During the research process, the researcher found that students became more patient and more optimistic when faced with listening obstacles and difficulties and began to have awareness to master useful listening strategies. It proves listening log can improve high school students’ self-regulation efficacy in listening. The research can be used to change the traditional listening teaching model, and teachers can help their students improve their listening proficiency and listening self-regulation efficacy by using listening log.
