In the current TCSL,“Word-Based-Approach”,with communicative function as the main function,is popular in China.The method is based on the commonality between Chinese and Indo-European languages,which takes Chinese vocabulary as the basic unit,and advocating the construction of sentences with words.INTERNATIONAL CURRICULUM for CHINESE LANGUAGE EDUCATION is a book in “Word-Based-Approach”,providing modes for guiding TCSL.With the continuous development of the cause,some drawbacks have appeared in "Word-Based-Approach",some scholars have turned attention to the other method called "Character-Based-Approach",forming a relatively opposite position between the two."Character-Based-Approach" is a teaching concept based on Chinese characters,and characters are bases for reading and writing.Jo?l Bellassen made the greatest achievement in “Character-Based-Approach” and write a book called A KEY to CHINESE SPEECH and WRITING,who led the way to success in French.The paper analyzes two forms.The one is the level 1-2 character forms in INTERNATIONAL CURRICULUM for CHINESE LANGUAGE EDUCATION basing on “Word-Based-Approach”,the other is the character forms in A KEY to CHINESE SPEECH and WRITING basing on “Character-Based-Approach”.We may find four characteristics in the two forms.This paper consists of six parts:The first part mainly introduces the reason of topic selection,research object,research status,research purpose and significance,research methods and ideas.In the researches,“Word-Based-Approach” and “Character-Based-Approach” are two different ideas,and the requirements for Chinese characters are also different.But now,there is no research for the character property contradistinction of them.The second part introduces the theory of the two methods respectively,and defines the properties of Chinese characters studied in this paper.The theoretical overview includes two parts.The one is the theory of “Word-Based-Approach” teaching method.The other is the practice of Chinese teaching in France,which shows the innovation of “Character-Based-Approach”.What’s more,attributes are defined in four parts: frequency of use,degree of ideographic expression,component separation and word-forming ability.The third part is to analyze the properties of the primary character table(lv1-2)in INTERNATIONAL CURRICULUM for CHINESE LANGUAGE EDUCATION,and to find out the rules of using characters.However,the two level of word lists also have different characteristic.This chapter analyzes the differences between the teaching objectives and contents of the first and second levels,and reflects the requirements of "Word-Based-Approach" for Chinese characters.The fourth part is to analyze the properties of the collected characters in A KEY to CHINESE SPEECH and WRITING(1),and find out the rules of collecting and using characters under the teaching concept of “Character-Based-Approach”.There are 400 Chinese characters in the list,which shows Jo?l Bellassen’s efforts and practices in “Character-Based-Approach”,and also shows the role of Chinese characters,which is obviously different from the other teaching method.The fifth part is a comparative analysis of the primary character list of INTERNATIONAL CURRICULUM for CHINESE LANGUAGE EDUCATION and the character list of A KEY to CHINESE SPEECH and WRITING(1).Through statistical analysis of the two overlapping and non-overlapping Chinese characters,it illustrates the commonness and individuality of the two standards in the screening of Chinese characters.The sixth part is the conclusion,which summarizes the main points and conclusions.
