A Research On The Acoustic Narrative Of Charles Dickens’ Novels | | Posted on:2020-03-06 | Degree:Master | Type:Thesis | | Country:China | Candidate:C Fang | Full Text:PDF | | GTID:2415330572992356 | Subject:Comparative Literature and World Literature | | Abstract/Summary: | PDF Full Text Request | | Charles Dickens is a well-known British writer who has a long history of writing a wide range of subjects and documentary.This paper focuses on the acoustic narrative of Charles Dickens’ novels.This paper is based on such a research idea: firstly,it discusses the concept and research method of "auditory narration".In the research process,"auscultation" and "soundscape" can be used as research tools to capture the literary symbols representing sound in the works.Through "auscultating",the auditory space corresponding to visual space and the "soundscape" corresponding to scenery can be constructed,and then the significance of the works can be explained from the perspective of narology.Secondly,it analyzes the sound description in dickens’ novels in three categories: noise,rumble and silence,and probes into the richness of auditory narration objects in dickens’ novels.Then,on the basis of sorting out the description of sound and clarifying the concept of "auscultating",the author further explores the way of listening in the novel and connects sound with "hearing".Finally,in order to show that the significance of auditory narration cannot only stay at the level of abstraction and carry out general theoretical criticism,convincing examples should also be provided in the practical field of literary criticism to prove the effectiveness of the study of auditory narration.By carefully reading Dickens’ novels,the unique textual functions of auditory narration are analyzed. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | Charles Dickens, The Acoustic Narrative, Auscultation, Soundscape | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
