Soseki Natsume is considered to be one of the greatest writers in modern Japanese literature.Soseki' s literary world digs into the contradictions of society the human life and people's inner world that occurred in the process of the rapid modernization of Japanese society and today his works give us so much enlightenment. In this article through the characters in the novels Botchan and I am a cat I study Soseki' s educational philosophy who is the representative write of the Meiji period.Soseki who is quite famaliar with the Japanese intellectuals has been sharply criticizing the materialism and the power-oriented world in the age which Kushami and Bochan lived in.Based on his own experience in the field of education Soseki criticizes the contradictions hypocrisy and the so-called"development" in education in the novels which gained great success in the rapidly modernized society.I n the novels Soseki emphasizes the importance of moral education and argues that the current education is not the true educat i on and moral education should be established as the true education. It turns out that Natsume Soseki' s experience and opinions on education were fully reflected in his works.Although the characters in the novel are fictional but from another perspective Natsume Soseki' s own experience can be seen in the protagonists of the novels.Natsume Sosek severely criticized the chaos existing in the educational environment at that time and strongly advocated that through the strict examination of the identity of teachers efforts should be made to cultivate teachers with good moral qualities.Soseki believes that education should be considered as the most important issue and given a high priority.A teacher should never forget his beliefs and qualities as an educator and then teaches his students with the beliefs and qualities.Only in this way will he become a qualified educator. In addition educators should not put stress on power and money and they will achieve effective communications with the students with their sense of duty and beliefs.
