Baojuan is a singing and saying literature's text that is sung in accordance with certain rituals in religious and folk belief activities. The academics generally believe that the Baojuan originated from the Buddhist custom of the Tang Dynasty, which was derived from the folk interpretation of the Buddhist classics, and was closely related to the Buddhist scriptures in the Song Dynasty.Later, folk religions also borrowed from the dissemination methods, and the Baojuan gradually become an important carrier of folk beliefs.According to the contents and functions of the Baojuan, they can be divided into two categories. The first is the Baojuan of Buddhism and the folk sects of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. It mainly deals with religious teachings, rituals, and persuasion. One is the Baojuan of the Qing and modern times, and a small number of literary singers in folk scrolls, including ritual songs, folk songs, which mainly tell literary stories. The academic research on Baojuan began in the 1920 s.The research of Baojuan has become a specialized subject. The famous scholar Li Shiyu named it "Bao Juan Xue" in the 1990 s.At present, the academic research on Baojuan is quite rich, presented in the form of catalogues, monographs, essays, essays, etc.,and the number is large, and the research scale has already been formed."Erlang Baojuan" is a sect of the Ming dynasty. At present, there is a lack of research on it in the academics. It is mainly seen in some academic monographs, journal articles, and masterpieces involving the study of Erlang, the study of "Journey to the West",and the research on Baojuan. So far, there has not been a monograph on the special and systematic research of "Erlang Baojuan",and there is no monograph neither. Therefore, this paper firstly raises questions from the introduction part, which summarizes the controversial problems of the academics on "Erlang Baojuan" and the deficiencies of its research. The first chapter explains the version and style of "Erlang Baojuan";The second chapter starts from the text, and researchs on its sects, which concludes that it belongs to the Xi Da Sheng Jiao, and explains the situation of Xi Da Sheng Jiao, discussing the religious thought of Xi Da Sheng Jiao. The third chapter examines the misunderstanding of the time of the book, summarizing the reasons for the publication, and examining the identity of the author, and analyzes the image of Erlang in Baojuan,to compare with the image of Erlang in the drama and novels.Summarizing the uniqueness of Erlang's image and make a new cultural interpretation, and sorts out and analyzes the story told by Baojuan, and compares it with Shidetang's "Journey to the West" to show its literary value, what is much different from Shidetang's.
