The “sociological turn” of translation studies emerged from 1990 s.Scholars at home and abroad began to apply Bourdieu's social practice theory,Luhmann's social systems theory and Latour's actor network theory to translation studies, which brings a new perspective for the combination of translatology and sociology.Among the existing researches,Bourdieu's main concepts such as field, capital and habitus were quoted most.Julia Lovell is a noted western sinologist and literary translator.Among her translated Chinese works,The Complete Fiction of Lu Xun was selected by Penguin Classics.Julia Lovell introduced Chinese literary classics to western readers by translating. This thesis,on the basis of Bourdieu's social practice theory, taking The Complete Fiction of Lu Xun as a case study, attempts to explore the factors that influence Julia Lovell's translation and how these factors affect Julia Lovell's translation selection, translation principle and translation strategy. It is hoped that this research can be helpful to the translation and dissemination of Chinese literature. This thesis adopted such research methods as literature analytical method, descriptive analysis and case study. The result of this study shows that it is the publisher, literary field, common readers, economic capital, cultural capital, social capital, symbolic capital, family growth, school education, literary taste, translation practice and writing experience together that contribute to Julia Lovell's English translation of The Complete Fiction of Lu Xun.And it is the publisher, translation practice and literary taste that mainly cause Lovell's translation selection of The Complete Fiction of Lu Xun,while it is the publisher and common readers that mainly lead to Lovell's adherence to the translation principle of faithful recreation and it is also the publisher and common readers that mainly result in Lovell's choice of domestication as the major translation strategy.
