A Study On Oral Chinese Learning Strategies Of Polish Students

Learning problems can be solved through learning strategies,and previous researches have proved that oral Chinese learning strategies can promote the oral Chinese learning.However,it's hard to find any researches on Polish students in this field.With the demand growth of systemic Chinese learning in Poland,this research surveys 34 Sinology students at University of Wroclaw via questionnaires and interviews.The research questions are as follows:(1)the usage of their oral Chinese learning strategies;(2)the impacts of individual differences on the usage of oral Chinese learning strategies;(3)the relations between their oral Chinses scores and the usage of oral Chinese learning strategies;(4)the teachers'and students'views on their oral Chinese learning and related strategies.This research finds that:(1)Polish sinology students don't use oral Chinese learning strategies that frequently.They use compensation strategies most frequently,followed by affective strategies,cognitive strategies,memorizing strategies,social strategies and metacognitive strategies.(2)The gender doesn't influence the usage of oral Chinese learning strategies;the duration of studies exerts appreciable impacts on the usage of social strategies;the learning motivation has significant influence on the usage of cognitive strategies,memorizing strategies,social strategies and metacognitive strategies;the low self-assessment of oral Chinese has appreciable impacts on the usage of cognitive strategies and metacognitive strategies.(3)The oral Chinese scores are positively related to the usage of oral Chinese learning strategies and are significantly related to cognitive strategies and metacognitive strategies.(4)The teachers do not think the students'oral Chinese learning is not satisfactory and they do not teach students various learning strategies;the students prefer to use metacognitive strategies,cognitive strategies,social strategies and affective strategies.Based on the results,the relevant teaching suggestions are put forward:(1)intensifying the training of using oral Chinese learning strategies and fostering awareness of using these strategies;(2)increasing the Chinese input to promote the use of cognitive strategies;guiding the students to use these strategies properly and designing diversified oral tasks for them;triggering their consciousness of assessing and improve the use of metacognitive strategies;(3)encouraging the students to stimulate their initiative to study so that they can learn oral Chinese through the input and output;building a good relation with the students to make them feel confident to study;making full use of the time in oral Chinese classes;(4)creating the conditions to enable the students to use metacognitive strategies,cognitive strategies,social strategies and affective strategies simultaneously.
