Romanticism is a very noticeable period in the history of western music.A large number of outstanding musicians and works emerged in this period. As a pioneer of early romantic music, franz schubert has played a decisive role in the history of western music.Schubert’s artistic songs and piano works provide a wealth of music literature research materials for future generations. At present, the domestic research and analysis of Schubert’s works are mainly concentrated in the field of artistic songs, and the research on his piano pieces is relatively few.During my master’s degree,I studied Schubert’s biography, and took Schubert’s impromptu in b flat major Op.142 No.3 as one of the concert’s tracks, combining theory with practice.while studying the creative elements of impromptu in b flat major,I also added my own performance experience to perfectly combine the musical connotation with stage experience. This paper consists of four chapters: the first chapter mainly introduces the development of piano genre and Schubert’s life and major works in the romantic period, which provides theoretical basis for understanding the creative background of impromptu in b flat major Op.142 No.3.The second chapter elaborates the mastery of the overall music style of the works from four angles of " melody"," tonality","speed" and " intensity".The third chapter analyzes the creative characteristics and performance skills of the works from three aspects: the use of variations, the use of non-uniform rhythm and the embellishment of decorative notes. The fourth chapter is mainly about sorting out the technical difficulties of the works and personal experience in the performance process.
