Reading takes up a large share in English teaching and test.Improving students' reading ability has always been the focus and difficulty in teaching reading.Only by solving in time the problems in both the students' learning and the teachers' teaching in reading,and by providing appropriate suggestions after analyzing the reasons accounting for the problems,can it help students and teachers work better in reading.Therefore,the investigation to the teaching in reading section is significant.With reference to National English Curriculum Standards for Senior High School(NECS,2017),this thesis investigates the teaching in reading section in Advance with English by Yilin press.It aims at answering the following three research questions.(1)Have the teachers and students met the requirements of NECS(2017)in the teaching and learning in reading section?(2)What are the difficulties and help needed for teachers and students in the teaching and learning in reading section respectively?(3)What can be done to solve the problems in the teaching and learning in reading section?The author investigated the teaching in reading section through questionnaire,interview and class observation,and then analyzed the collected data with Excel,aiming to find out whether the teaching in reading section has met the requirements of NECS(2017).Finally,the author dealt with the reasons accounting for the problems and provided suggestions.The research findings are as follows:(1)Some teachers under investigation do not combine reading,listening,speaking and writing well in the teaching in reading section as required by NECS(2017).Some students have not met the requirements for reading in NECS(2017).Some students are not able to use reading strategies in the learning in reading section.Some of them do not have cross-cultural awareness,while some do not have sufficient extracurricular reading as required in NECS(2017).(2)Theobstacles the teachers encountered with are how to get students engaged in class activities actively and arouse students' interests in the learning in reading section.As for students,some students think the reading section is difficult to them,and some students are not interested in the learning in reading section.Some students are insufficient in vocabulary.Based on the current situation of teaching in the reading section and the effectiveness of schema theory in the teaching of reading,this thesis provides relevant pedagogical suggestions for the teaching in the reading section.This research can broaden the application of schema theory and shed some light on the teaching of reading in Advance with English.
