Equality has always been an important proposition of human concern,which reflects the relationship between people and is an important guarantee for social harmony and stability.Since ancient times,countless sages have studied and thought about equality and explored for the realization of human equality.Rousseau,as one of the enlightenment thinkers in France in the 18 th century,paid the most attention to and studied equality.With his unique views on equality,Rousseau became the first explorer of human inequality,trying to realize the happy life of freedom and equality of all people through social contract and people’s sovereignty.His thought of equality not only became the theoretical basis of the great French revolution,but also had a great influence on the thought of equality in later generations.His reflection on private ownership directly inspired Marx.Rousseau’s concept of equality has an important historical position in the history of human civilization and ideology and is a bright pearl in the treasure house of human culture.Today’s China is at a critical stage of social transformation,and the issue of social equity is increasingly prominent.Rousseau’s equality thought will undoubtedly bring us enlightenment to better build socialist equality.This paper is divided into four parts.The first part is the introduction,which introduces the research background,research foundation and current situation,research methods and innovation in four aspects.The second part mainly analyzes the objective historical conditions,theoretical sources and Rousseau’s unique personal growth experience.The third part focuses on the main content of Rousseau’s concept of equality.This paper discusses the connotation of equality in Rousseau’s eyes,that private ownership is the root of inequality and the process of dialectical development of inequality,and explores the ways to solve inequality as well as the characteristics of Rousseau’s concept of equality.The fourth part evaluates the historical status of Rousseau’s equality concept and its enlightenment to the construction of socialism with Chinese characteristics today.
