George MacDonald is a talented and outstanding fantasy writer in Scotland.Since his fantasy book At the Back of the North Wind was published in 1871,it has been widely loved by generations. This thesis focuses on George MacDonald's theology of imagination in this novel, demonstrating that the writer firmly believes in God's infinite and sacred power of imagination and creativity in three aspects: the root of imagination in God,God's imaginative action and God's imaginative spirit.North Wind,as the incarnation of God,is the root of imagination in the universe and she gives infinite creativity to Diamond;North Wind's redemptive actions reflect that God's redemptive love extends to all humans;North Wind also inspires Diamond's imagination and helps him to achieve redemption. As a theologian,George MacDonald reveals God's magical power which can not be neglected by creating fantasy stories. It was regarded as a magic weapon of solving social problems at that age.
