Discourse is the product of social practice,which implies the specific relationship among language structure,power and ideology tendencies.This paper carries out a detailed analysis on the British and Russian diplomatic statements about Salisbury Attack from the perspective of critical discourse analysis,and texts involved in this thesis are selected from Foreign Commonwealth Office and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation separately,which are released from March 2018 to February 2019.Based on Fairclough's three-dimensional model and under the guidance of Halliday's systematic-functional grammar,this paper describes linguistic elements in terms of the systems of classification and transitivity in order to find out the differences of linguistic structural features of British and Russian diplomatic statements,then interprets how the hidden ideological meanings is reflected through linguistic forms and linguistic strategies of diplomatic statements in terms of modality and cohesion,and explains social practice process of the discourse by combining the social and historical context of diplomatic statements.The study of critical discourse analysis on diplomatic statements is helpful to enhance people's language awareness and critical thinking skill,and provide theoretical reference for relevant research in discourse analysis. |
