A Study On Literary Translation In The Wartime From The Perspective Of Ideology

Although there is relatively little attention paid from the translation field to the translation activities in the wartime,it does not mean that the literary translations in this period have no research value.As one of the few large literary journals in the wartime,Front of Literature and Arts provides new research perspectives and research materials for the translation studies.Therefore,with the journal named Front of Literature and Arts taken as the research object,this thesis tries to explore the ideological influence on the literary translation through the analysis of the antiwar historical background.Through the analysis,this thesis finds that influenced by the dominant ideology of achieving the national independence and liberation,the literary translation aims at meeting the demands of the antiwar reality and focuses on accomplishing the historical mission,namely fully mobilizing the masses to be involved in the anti-Japanese cause.The guidelines for the literary translation include applicability in the topic contents,popularization in the manifestation modes and localization in the value and significance.Under the influence of these three guidelines,the translators usually choose such translation strategies as selective translation,colloquialism and annotation;The subject matters of the works published by the editors are mainly reflected in the three aspects,including works on people' fighting and resistance,works on the national spirit of looking forward and striving for the freedom and works on the antiwar literary theory;Focusing on the social functions,the critics also pay more attention to excavating the antiwar spiritual power and strengthening the fighting significance when they make their commentaries about the translated works.At last,this thesis draws the following conclusion: the editorial and publishing principles,the translation strategies,the subject matters and the translation criticism in Front of Literature and Arts all deeply reflect the ideological influence.Since the journal's establishment,it has been serving the antiwar reality.The case study of Front of Literature and Arts shows the fact that the translation can never be conducted in a vacuum,revealing the deep influence of the ideology on the wartime literary translation.
