The lexical notebook strategy is included in the 58 vocabulary learning strategies of the Schmitt's classification.In recent years,researchers at home and abroad have studied lexical notebook strategy from different aspects and are committed to exploring its roles.Confronted with a large number of learning tasks,Grade Nine of junior middle school students,especially regarding learning English,they need to master a lot of vocabularies,but most of them remember the words just by rote memorization.The result of this kind of mechanical memory is that students spend a lot of time and energy in memorizing vocabularies,yet the effect is extraordinarily negative.For the reasons mentioned above,the present thesis applies the lexical notebook strategy based on Lexical Approach of Michael Lewis to vocabulary teaching and the research aims at finding out the effectiveness of lexical notebook strategy on students' English vocabulary learning from two main aspects: students' vocabulary learning achievements as well as what kind of attitudes students hold towards the lexical notebook strategy.This thesis selects 100 students from Chengguan Middle School in Zhenyuan County,Qingyang City as research participants.With the purpose of exploring(1)whether the lexical notebook strategy can improve students' English vocabulary achievements;(2)what are the attitudes of junior middle school students of Grade Nine after using lexical notebook strategy? The author collects 12-week data by tests and interview.The author analyzes the data through SPSS.22 and finds that:(1)By using the lexical notebook strategy,students in the experimental class have significantly improved their vocabulary scores compared with control class;(2)from interviews of experimental class,the author finds that most of the students hold positive attitudes towards lexical notebook strategy and meanwhile most of them remark that they will keep on using lexical notebook strategy in the future learning process.This study indicates that lexical notebook strategy is actually an effective and efficient vocabulary learning strategy,therefore,to attract the concerns of middle school teachers and to guide them to master how to teach lexical notebook strategy is out of necessity in order to improve the junior middle school students' vocabulary learning efficiency and achievement.To make a further step,lexical notebook strategy is also valuable for second language acquisition in the future.However,the research objects of the lexical notebook strategy should be extendedto the students of different English levels and meanwhile the effect of the lexical notebook strategy is still a long-term follow-up research.
